Sitting on the island of Oahu in the Hawaiian State, Honolulu is one of the few U.S. cities that are on the one hand a bustling metropolis but on the other a laid back tropical getaway. The Hawaiian lifestyle instantly relaxes any tourist that gets off a plane at Honolulu’s airport. You might not believe this but there is a magical urge to learn and speak the Hawaiian language. Surely, there must be a reason why you would want to say “humuhumunukunukuapua’a!” Maybe it is the sweet smell of flowers carried by the gentle ocean breeze. Anyone ever considered going to Hawaii on safari? I do not mean the typical “fly-into-Honolulu-and-head-to-the-beach” vacation but a trip to the other less-talked-about islands. Oahu, which hosts Honolulu the state’s capital city, is of itself a great travel destination. However, many proponents of a Hawaiian vacation could be selling the rest of the state short. Hanalei Bay, the North Shore or the South Shore (I like the south best) all present great opportunities to see wild Hawaii. Isn’t it interesting how many people are fixated with staying in Honolulu on Oahu Island when they visit Hawaii (the State)? Few seem to know about the active volcano on Big Island (Hawaii the Island). Kilauea is an active volcano that has been spewing lava for over twenty-five years and has not showed any signs of relenting. It is great site to see for the more adventurous traveler. Big Island has a diverse terrain. Black lava near Kona, a tropical rainforest near Hilo and high mountain passes leading into Hawi up the Kona coast.
