Travel for Fun

travel-leisureSeeing the many wonders of the world has always been a great dream of mine and I guess for many others. To be confined in the city where I grew up tends to bring forth a sort of need to explore what’s out there. The process of traveling gives one the rush of what’s to come; anticipation and excitement would be heavy in the air. Some people choose to travel in style, to have everything laid out for them, to have a well prepaid itinerary and to be assured that all the must see sights are covered on their tour. While there are others who are most of the adventurous types who’d prefer to be exploring the new place on their own, they are usually called the backpackers who’d prefer to stay in a cheap hotel, explore the place with a guidebook and walk along the streets like a native. However your travel and what your itinerary might be depend on you and of the budget you have.

Visit Singapore

The island city-state of Singapore has always been famous for its culture and history. Today however, the emphasis seems to be firmly placed on tourism and it’s hardly surprising considering the wealth of attractions it boasts. There are simply too many interesting places and events to mention them all here, but one cannot write about Singapore without giving particular mention to The Orchard Road Shopping District which is a veritable magnet for visitors to the city, featuring first class shopping outlets, entertainment facilities and luxurious hotels and restaurants.  Why not check out this site www.visitsingapore.com to find more about Orchard Road and the other charming attractions Singapore has to offer?

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands

With their white sand beaches and overwhelming air of tranquillity, the beautiful Andaman and Nicobar Islands is an archipelago consisting of 572 paradise islands and islets covering an area of over 800kms in the Bay of Bengal.  Their capital Port Blair, is now considered one of the foremost popular holiday destinations in the world, with snorkelling, scuba diving and trekking just a few of the many activities on offer.  I recommend for those wishing to know more to visit http://tourism.andaman.nic.in/welcome.html, an informative site which not only tells you more about the island, its history and its people, but the myriad of reasons why these islands make the perfect holiday destination. Enjoy!

Travelling as a Hobby

vacation-travel

Ask any ten people what their hobbies are and there is a good chance that more than half of them will include travel or its variant on their list. Whether it is a planned holiday or a business trip, travel can be fun! If you would really like to maximize the thrill, take time to do some research. This information-gathering exercise does not have to be elaborate. It could be as simple as talking to friends, consulting with a travel agent or going through online reviews. Remember that if it is holiday travel, you took time off your daily routine and probably had to save for it. Therefore, it is important that you make it worth your while.

Seoul, South Korea: Miss it at your peril

As the capital city of the ancient and venerable Asian nation of Korea (which has a history dating back thousands of years) Seoul has a rich heritage. Any travel expert will advise that is always wise to include Seoul on any major Asian tourist circuit.  First designated as a capital city by the Joseon Dynasty in 1392, Seoul is a mixture of the traditional and the modern.  The Gwangwhamun District is the home of kingdom-era palaces, shrines and temples. The district also has lively and vibrant markets that are open for business round the clock.  Modern Seoul is full of galleries, theaters and landmark structures, such as the Star Tower.

Ancient German Grandeur

When looking at great castles in the world, the grandest of them all could be in the Bavarian region of Germany.  Built by the “Mad King Ludwig” (his actual name was Louis II) the castle was built as a celebration of ancient German architecture.  Its official name is Neuschwanstein Castle and it is one of Bavaria’s foremost attractions. However, this magnificent edifice is hardly the only thing to see and do while in the region, which is also home to the Munich metropolis.  There is a lot of amazing architecture, lively cities and a hip nightlife in the region.  Bavaria is a must-see for anybody touring Germany.

Syracuse, Sicily: Greek ad Roman Heritage

Of Italian towns that have had an impact on Mediterranean civilization, few are more compelling than Syracuse.  Located on the Italian island of Sicily, it was founded by Greek settlers around 734 BC. It later fell under Roman rule and the dominance of the Byzantine Empire.  The architectural influences from these ancient civilizations are present in and around the city today.  The Italian name for the town is “Siracusa,” and while it is Italian, the town still draws on to its Greek heritage.  The city has numerous first-rate hotels. While you are at Syracuse, do not miss the opportunity to check out the venerable ruins of the Roman amphitheater.

Exploring Ancient South America

If you are looking for that memorable South American experience, make sure you include a stop in the ancient city of Machu Picchu in Peru to your travel itinerary.  The greatest achievement of the old Incan Empire, Machu Picchu beautifully sits on a hilltop between two 7,000-foot mountains.  The first Spanish explorers who visited the region hundreds of years ago did not discover the city. It was not until 1911 that archeological research unearthed it.  As a monument to ancient culture, language, technology and architecture, Machu Picchu uniquely demonstrates the close relationship the Inca had with their most revered god.

Visiting the U.S. Virgin Islands

Did you know you can visit the Caribbean without leaving the United States? If you are a U.S. citizen, you will avoid the passport hassles that overseas vacations often come with.  The three islands that make up the United States Virgin Islands (St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. St. John) have their arms open wide.  Pristine beaches, warm weather and crystal-clear waters beckon the visitor at every turn. The peaceful and fun-loving lifestyle among the islands residents will immediately put you at ease.   There are semi-secluded beaches and national parks, which combined with duty-free shopping give every tourist an unforgettable experience.
